چکیده
Abstract Ionomers are used in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) catalyst layers to improve proton conduction. Recent analytical studies have clarified that the adsorption of ionomer on surface a Pt deteriorates catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction and transport properties near surface. These findings led development new materials, such as mesoporous carbon support highly oxygen-permeable ionomer, which now commercially used. In this review article, we summarize recent Pt/ionomer interface focusing half-cell experiments with single-crystal electrodes. We also present promising approaches mitigating adsorption, well remaining challenges application these PEFCs.

Study of Alkaline Electrodes for Hybrid Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells
Hybrid polymer electrolyte fuel cells combine a proton exchange membrane PEM and anion exchange membrane AEM and exhibit unique advantages. The electrochemical performance and current limitations of a hybrid cell with an alkaline electrode fabricated on a Nafion membrane was characterized at 70°C as a function of relative humidity. To separate the individual characteristics of the AEM anode and...

The ability to accurately measure separate in situ anode and cathode overpotentials and impedance responses is still a source of debate when investigating fuel cells of planar configuration containing < 100 μm thickness solid electrolytes and when using the common three electrode arrangement. The results obtained in this study indicate that the overpotentials and impedances of the anode and cat...
متن کاملCatalyst supports for polymer electrolyte fuel cells.
A major challenge in obtaining long-term durability in fuel cells is to discover catalyst supports that do not corrode, or corrode much more slowly than the current carbon blacks used in today's polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Such materials must be sufficiently stable at low pH (acidic conditions) and high potential, in contact with the polymer membrane and under exposure to hydrogen ...

In the present study, a step by step process was applied to synthesize bimetallic electrocatalyst (Ru and Pt on VulcanXC-72R). This process can reduce the amount of platinum and increase the gas diffusion electrode (GDE) performance in the cathodic reaction of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Using the impregnation by hydrothermal synthesis method, a series of electrocatalysts ...
